Florist Pricing, is it Worth it?

The short answer is, of course, it depends. When I was little, my mother would pick up a bouquet of sunflowers, carnations, babies breath, and some other assortment of sort of random blooms from our local grocery store. With care, we would place them in a crystal vase (yes, crystal!) and proudly display them on our kitchen island.
I know now that was her way of honoring beauty and honoring herself., it was what we could afford, and it was convenient.
I think all women, heck, all people, should have those moments of joy from flowers regardless of if they come from a grocery store or an established florist, but there are advantages to working with a local florist shop, a florist studio, or a floral designer! Here are a few reasons that florist arrangement is worth the price:

The Blooms Baby
Great florists are dedicated to sourcing the best local flowers and work diligently to find and work with reputable flower wholesalers. This means the blooms that fill out your vase from a florist are going to last longer and likely have been sourced with better ethical / sustainable practices in mind!
You can always ask your florist where they source their flowers from and it is often a good way to know if that florist's work aligns with your personal values!

The Florist's Education
People who work with flowers often have a deep love for their medium and have spend years if not decades learning about color theory, how to condition and keep specific blooms at their best for the longest, what flowers smell the best, look the best together, mean certain things when it comes to intentions or feelings, and more.
Great florists also support each other, which means they have peers and mentors who help in this journey to expertise. You might see an arrangement and say, "ooh, dang, that's pretty." But you might not be able to put your finger on exactly why you think that. Your florist can though! And that person's mental time, energy, and passion for the flowers and the art of gifting flowers is something that gets built into the pricing in some ways.

Peace of Mind
When you gift flowers, it's often for a special occasion, honoring a life-lived, or to bring some beauty into someone's life. With a reputable florist, you know the blooms you are gifting will have the love and care that mean the gift will last, will make an impact, and will do justice to the moment.
Supporting a Small Business
When you order from your local florist, you are ordering from a real person. Yesterday I sat with someone on the phone for 30 minutes working through a translator-friend of his to help him order a dozen roses for his girlfriend who lives in our city while he is miles away (all while my five-year-old demanded snacks and handed me barbies in my non-phone hand!). His girlfriend was thrilled to receive the sentiment of love, and he sent the nicest message to me thanking me for being patient, taking the time, and making the moment special for her.
We made her day, his day, and my day more meaningful! That feels pretty special.
So, while that grocery store arrangement may be priced to sell, with a good florist who you align with aesthetically and ethically, you can cash-in on all these benefits and more.
Who will you celebrate today?
